Wood

Caring for wood products

  • Wipe up spills as they occur.  Do not allow any wood prolonged contact with moisture or pooled liquid.

  • Always use coasters or felt pads below anything with sharp edges.

  • If wood surface becomes scratched re-seal as soon as possible (Danish Oil – wipe on and then wipe with clean rag).  Be sure to properly dispose of rags (hang or lay out oily rags until dry).  It is never good to allow water/liquid to come into direct contact with bare wood.

  • Fingerprints, residues, tobacco smoke, etc. will accumulate on the finished surface. They will not damage the finish but should be removed occasionally to restore the finish to its original state.

  • Exposure to direct sunlight, heat and high humidity can damage both the finish and the wood.  Maintain a conditioned space and avoid these conditions.

  • Lacquer may need to be sanded and reapplied if finish becomes excessively worn or damaged.

  • Dust build-up (airborne particles) collecting on the finish, if not properly removed, may dull, or even scratch the finish. Simply wipe the finish with a cloth dampened with a mild detergent or polish.

CLEANING wood products

  • Generally, a soft damp cloth followed by a dry cloth will be all you need to clean the finish. If a cleaner is required, use only a very mild soap and wipe dry (ie: White vinegar/water 1:1; Murphy's Oil Soap Wood Cleaner or Simple Green - 4oz to 1 gallon of water). A high-quality non-wax polish may be used occasionally.

  • Apply cleaners and polish with a soft cloth following the manufacturer's instructions.

  • Microfiber general-purpose cleaning cloths are recommended; never use abrasive cleaners.

WHAT NOT TO DO WITH WOOD PRODUCTS

  • Avoid leaving potted plants or objects that will maintain wet contact in one spot for extended periods of time.

  • Avoid using any abrasive cleaning utensils on finished surfaces including 3M Scotch Brite products.

  • Never use abrasive cleaners.

  • Avoid excessive waxing, cleaners containing bleach, solvents, cleaners with abrasives, cleaners containing ammonia.  Dyes and inks from newsprint and plastic bags may penetrate the finish when moist.

Metal

Caring for METAL products

  • Regular care and cleaning of your custom steel surfaces are necessary for the long life of your metalwork.

  • Steel can be conditioned with Johnson’s paste wax.

  • Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight may cause tonal variations and areas that are exposed to oils from touching will experience a similar effect.

CLEANING METAL products

  • Clean with a microfiber cloth and a mild mixture of soap and water (ie: Simple Green - 4oz to 1 gallon of water).

  • Begin with a light dusting to remove any particles on the surface that may cause scratches. Remember to wipe only in the direction of linear grain if there is any.

WHAT NOT TO DO WITH METAL PRODUCTS

  • Avoid prolonged contact with moisture and avoid contact with any abrasive cleaner or utensil.

  • Avoid using excess liquid and avoid applying liquid directly to metal.

  • Do not allow liquid to pool - dry quickly and thoroughly.

  • Do not keep strong acids, bases or abrasives such as vinegar, ammonia, citrus, salt water, soap, Scotch Brite, etc. as well as any solvents near steel. These solutions can eat through the clear coat which will leave your steel vulnerable to rust.
